Sturt Street Office Home

2018 Australian Institute of Architects - South Australia Chapter Awards.

  • Commendation for Small Project Architecture.

Sturt Street Office Home was is a home for our office. It reflected how we like to work.  A simple plan constructed with self-finished materials.  Overlaid with colour, pattern and texture to contrast and complement.

A limited palette of usually concealed or discarded building materials is celebrated.

A ceiling string sculpture constructed from bricklayers’ string is a playful and personal reflection on childhood interests in string art, Spirograph and pattern making.

Office fitouts are often sacrificial, expensive both financially and materially. Demonstrating that a fitout can be inexpensive and avoid wastefulness, Office Home is demountable, not fixed to the walls at any point it can be reassembled elsewhere.

A series of boxes in the window displayed our models and mini art work by others – Adelaide’s Smallest Gallery!

Office Home is a prototype. It explores how far you can get with a few (quite a few) trips to the hardware shop.
